Promoting Social-Emotional Education:
Practitioners and Researchers Exploring Evidence Based Practice

We would like you to participate in the Second European Network for Socio-Emotional Competence in Children (ENSEC) Conference on 9-12 September, 2009, Izmir -Turkey. ENSEC is a collaborative network for European researchers and practitioners working in the area of social and emotional competence in children and young people.

The conference builds on the First European Conference on Social, Emotional and
Behaviour Competence and Difficulties in Children and Young People held in Malta, 13-15th September, 2007. The theme of the 2009 conference - Promoting Social-Emotional Education: Practitioners and Researchers Exploring Evidence Based Practice -provides a focus for dissemination of research in this field and discussion of the implications of evidence-based research for practitioners, policy-makers and researchers alike. There are four key conference sub-themes

• Early intervention: building social and emotional competence from early years on, through preventive programs
• Successful strategies: building effectiveness in programs and practice through personal and professional development
• Emancipatory research and practice: children and young persons as partners
• Policy and provision: developing national strategies for social and emotional education
  

Bogazici University, the Department of Primary Education in association with ENSEC is proud to host the 2009 Conference. We will do our utter best to make it fruitful,
enjoyable, and fulfilling. ENSEC 2009 will be an opportunity to communicate and
discuss common research topics with other scholars and to discuss your research in
particular. It is our aim to reach out to practitioners who are eager to share their
experiences in the field of social and emotional development and education in children
and young people. In this way, we hope to contribute to the field and bridge the gap
between research and practice.

The Surmeli Efes Hotel and Conference Centre is on Pamucak Beach, near the Turkish town of Selcuk and the ancient town of Ephesus, which is the largest and most developed remnant of Greek and Roman civilization in Asia Minor. It was also a site of early Christian development. The grave and basilica of St. John are in Selcuk, as is the site where Mary, the Mother of Jesus, spent the last years of her life. Not far away are Troy and Gallipoli to the North, Pamukkale to the East, and Kuşadasi, Priene, and Miletus to the South.

Bogazici University, established in 1863, is located on the Bosphorus Straight in Istanbul and hosts close to 12,000 students and faculty.
